How To Make Lemon Juice Using a Juicer in 6 Simple Steps

The Health Benefits of Lemon Juice

Lemons are known to be a very rich source of Vitamin C, fiber, calcium, Potassium, and Folate. Vitamin C is a greater promoter of immunity, it battles infection and heals wounds very quickly.  Calcium is crucial for effective muscle function, hormone secretion, and even vascular contraction. On the other hand, Potassium and Folate help your muscles work properly and help in blood cell formation respectively. These health benefits will now be discussed in detail.

1. Support Heart Health

As stated already, Lemon is a very good source of vitamin C and the consumption of vitamin is provided great support for heart health. Lemon provides about 31mg of vitamin C and this translates into about 51% of the standard daily intake as recommended by RDI. Research has shown that fruits and vegetables, rich in Vitamin C can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease.

2. Weight Control

Lemon is a popular recipe for weight loss as it is often prescribed for weight control. There are several theories as to how lemon helps with weight loss. Hence, as of now, there is no consensus as to how in fact lemons help helps achieve weight loss.

One common theory is that lemon contains a soluble pectin fiber that automatically expands in your stomach when consumed, then this gives you the illusion that you are full and it keeps you that way for a while, at least till it has completely broken down. Now, the downside to this theory even if it can be substantiated is that this pectin fiber is contained mainly in lemon pulps, hence, if you opt for a lemon juice as opposed to the fruit itself, which still has the pulp, you may not derive the ‘derivable’ in it.

Another theory is that a combination of hot/warm water and lemon has a greater effect, helping you lose weight, however, warm/hot water itself helps lose burn some calories, now it is hard to conclude that it is in fact lemon that is responsible for weight loss in this case or it is the warm water. Well, it could be both. I really can’t pick a side, can you?

Lastly, research shows that it is the plant extracts in lemon that help get rid of those calories. The same research carried out an experiment that revealed the effect of these plant extracts on mice but no studies have confirmed that the same works to aid weight loss in human beings.

Bottom line is, that it may be controversial what component of lemon particularly aids weight loss in human beings but one thing is clear, lemon does the trick. If you feel the juice is not yielding the desired effect, just add the pulp and if you still aren’t seeing results, add warm water and you will lose that weight sooner or later.

3. Prevents Kidney Stones

One of the functions of your Kidney is the secretion of waste/ toxic products. This waste can crystalize after some time, forming small lumps which are also called Kidney stones. Actually, this is quite a common experience in humans and when you get it once, you may get it again.

The good thing is lemon contains citric acid that helps prevents Kidney Stones. It does this by increasing urine volume and urine PH in humans, which in turn flushes toxic substances out of the kidney. Just a half cup of lemon juice per day may provide enough citric acid that will fight kidney stone formation in people who already have it.

4. Reduces Cancer Risk

A healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables may help prevent some cancers. Some studies have discovered that people who consume a lot of fruits, rich in citrus, have a lower risk of cancer. As a matter of fact, In test-tube studies, many compounds from lemons have killed cancer cells. However, they may not have the same effect on the human body.

5. Lemon Improves Digestive Health

Lemons are made up of about 10% carbs, mostly in the form of soluble fiber and simple sugars. The main fiber in lemons is pectin, a form of soluble fiber linked to multiple health benefits. And consequently, soluble fiber can improve gut health and slow down the digestion of sugar and starches. These effects may result in reduced blood sugar levels.

However, if you are to enjoy the benefits of fiber from lemons, you must consume the pulp, otherwise, you may not see the full effects.

6. Helps clear Skin

If you are looking to get radiant skin, lemon is one of the fruits you can use. Most skin irritation and disease are caused by bacteria and Lemons have been discovered to contain natural antibacterial properties and hydroxyl acids which can help remove blackheads and in turn, brighten and exfoliate the skin. Also, Lemon has also been known to possibly help halt bad breath and get rid of dandruff when applied to the scalp. In fact, the Vitamin C in lemons promotes collagen synthesis which in turn boosts the performance of your skin.

Tip:

The Application of Lemon Juice.

You can add lemon juice to your water to improve its taste. This can be done both morning and night to improve digestion. Just a cup or two of warm water and lemon juice can improve digestion and reduce heartburn while stimulating the production of stomach bile and acid. Lemon juice and water also serve as a good substitute for coffee as they can give you the same energy boost without the jitters or midday crash.

In the evening, you may choose to go a step higher from cold water to hot water. You can combine hot water with lemon, right before bed, if you have had a heavy or a spicy meal, this will help prevent constipation, and easy digestion and it will help you sleep.

“The quantity of lemon water recommended varies by person,” says Tessa Wellmon, RD, a registered dietician at UPMC Hamot. “Somebody without ill effects could consume several glasses a day. But if you have been told it is affecting the enamel of your teeth or you notice it causing heartburn, it would be in your best interest to use it sparingly and make sure you are diluting it with a larger volume of water.”

Do not consume Lemon in Excess!

Undoubtedly, lemon juice has numerous health benefits but it is important to know that it also has negative effects. The American Dental Association in an effort to prevent dental problems has said that the consumption of lemon will cause the citrus in it to weaken your enamel, increasing your risk of tooth decay.

The frequent consumption of lemon is discouraged for ulcer patients or people suffering from any Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).

Once upon a time, the operation of an electric juicer required some sort of expertise but in recent times, it has become a common appliance in home kitchens needing no skill set at all. While it may be unnecessary for you to bring out your juicer when you just need to get that orange or lemon juice from a piece or a couple of pieces of these fruits, you may need it when you are confronted with making an extraction in large or commercial quantity. While you are at it, you may also need to learn how to put lemon in a juicer. But rest assured, all will be addressed in this section. Some argue that this extraction is a thing you can do with a food processor but I bet it is not as effective

To Peel or Not to Peel?

An electric juicer, especially the centrifugal kind can handle almost any fruit you throw at it and this includes its peels too. You may put it in whole, half, or quarters, trust me, the blades of your electric juicer will slice right through and your lemon juice will be squeezed out at the end of the process. But take note, if you choose to go all-in with the peels and everything, you may produce a very bitter flavor of lemon juice and this can be very unpleasant. Therefore, it is advisable for you to peel those lemons before juicing them, to keep that oily and bitter taste out of your lemon juice.

You can achieve the above by peeling those lemons as you would oranges. pierce the peel with your fingernail or use a knife to gently take off the peel. Whichever method you choose, just make sure to get that peel off completely. You can also choose to quarter the lemons and gently pull the fruit away from the peel. Try to keep the quartered lemon segments intact to preserve as much juice as possible.

Right beneath the peel is the pith. The pith is the soft white layer between the fruit and the peel. Don’t stress about removing the pith as your electric juicer will effectively separate the pith, seeds, and even fibers of the lemon from its juice.

How to make lemon juice in a juicer

The electric juicer makes the juicing process pretty easy, all that takes time is the prepping of your lemon by peeling them and the washing of your juicer when your juicing is done. Be informed that this is a general procedure for making a lemon juice, if you need a specific one tailored for your model or the peculiar juicer type, you may have to consult your juicer manual for this purpose. Here goes nothing!

Step 1

Feed your lemons to the chute of your juicer. whether your lemon is halved, quartered, or peeled, this is time to load it into the juicer for it to do its magic.

Step 2

Place a container for collecting the juice under the spout.

Step 3

Locate the power button of the juicer and turn it on. Afterward, press the lemons down with the plunger.

Step 4

Drop additional peeled lemons or lemon pieces into the chute and gently press them down with the plunger as the chute empties. The lemons should disappear quickly and you should soon see juice dripping out of the spout.

Step 5

Leave the machine running a while after the last lemon has gone down the chute. This guarantees the juicer more time to further press the lemon fruits down, extracting every drop of lemon juice from it.

Step 6

After you finish, do not just leave the juicer at that spot, clean it up. Some juicers can be washed in a dishwasher, check your manual to be sure yours belongs to that category. It is important to do this almost immediately because if you wait, the remnants of the fruit and juice will dry onto the juicer parts, making cleanup more difficult.

Storing Lemon Juice

Ensure that the container you pick for your lemon juice storage is air-tight. After filling the container with your lemon juice, store it in a refrigerator for two to three days. You can choose longer days, only ensure that it is within the time that this juice is safe to consume because when it remains for too long, its flavor will deteriorate. You can keep lemon juice in the freezer for three to four months without ill effects on the flavor. Freeze the juice in covered containers or sealable plastic bags. For handy, small portions, freeze the juice in ice cube trays, then transfer the frozen cubes to a sealable plastic bag.

FAQs

How Often Should I clean my Juicer?

Irrespective of the juicer in question, a juicer should be cleaned after every use. This activity is necessary because the tiny bits of pulp on the juicer can quickly harden, making them much more difficult to clean after a while. Cleaning immediately after every use will also prevent the decay of fruit particles in the juicer. Though even with daily cleaning, make sure to give the juicer a deeper cleaning weekly.

How Do I clean my Juicer?

Believe me, this cleaning is necessary if you must keep your room smelling good. Before you begin cleaning at all, power the juicer down, then dissemble the juicer, taking apart all its detachable components. Also, empty the pulp container and wash all its parts thoroughly. Rinse it after washing, leave for a while and reassemble. If your juicer can be washed in a dishwasher, this is a lot more convenient. Just place its disassembled parts in the dishwasher and it will come out clean.
